Questions and Answers About NH Sled Registration

Q: What is new for 2002-2003?
A: The NH Legislature has passed a law that says everyone who registers in NH must be a member
of a snowmobile club OR they must pay $30 PER SLED as a CAP (Club Assistance Program) Fee.
This means if you have 4 sleds, it could cost you $120.00 IN ADDITION to registration Fees!

Q: Why was this law passed?
A:  In the past, only about 10% of the registered riders in NH actually joined a snowmobile club.
Even less riders volunteer their time to assist with the maintenance of the trail system.  The snowmobile
clubs and NHSA lobbied the NH legislature to require membership so the clubs could expand their membership
base. While this change should bring more revenue to the clubs, the ultimate goal is to get more of the registered
riders to volunteer their time in maintaining the 6,000+ miles of trails in the state..

Q: Have the registration fees changed?
A: No.  The registration fees remain the same as last year.  For NH residents, the cost is $48.00 and
for non-residents the cost is $63.00 per sled.  If you want to see where this money goes, click on the link below:
http://www.wildnh.com//Inside_FandG/FAQs.htm

Q: Can I join a club when I register my machines?
A: Not at this time.  The dealers will only accept a club membership card that has been printed by
the NHSA  Therefore you need to get your club membership BEFORE you register your machines.

Q: What is the least expensive way to register my snowmobiles?
A: Join the Groveton Trailblazers Club for $20.00.  You can then bring your GTB membership card to
the dealer and avoid paying the CAP fee on each individual machine.  However you will still have to
pay the individual registration fee for each sled.  For example, if you are a non-resident with 4 sleds
you would pay 4 x $63.00 plus the $20.00 Groveton Trailblazers Membership fee for a total of $272.00.
If you DO NOT join a snowmobile club, your total cost would be 4 x $63.00 registration fee plus
4 x $30.00 CAP fee for a total of $372.00!  You save $100 by joining our club!

Q: Do I have to join NHSA before I join the Groveton Trailblazers Club?
A: No.  If you are not a member of the NHSA we will enroll you.  If you are already a member of
NHSA, then fill in your membership number on our membership form.

Q: What do I get for being a member in the Groveton Trailblazers Club?
A: The cost of your membership helps to offset some of the administrative costs of the club.  It also
a prerequisite for using club equipment for ongoing maintenance projects (after you have been trained).
You will also receive our club newsletter that will keep you informed of news and events in the club.

Q: What do I get for being a member in NHSA?
A: The NHSA works with the NH Legislature and Trails Bureau establishing new trails, insurance
programs, etc. that are necessary on a state level to keep the trail system operating. You also get a
newspaper updating you on snowmobile related events all over the state.

Q: How long will my membership last?
A: Your club and NHSA membership will run from July 1, 2004 to June 30, 2005.

How are the Registration Fees Used?

Due to a new law - House Bill 1348, Chapter 253, effective July 1, 2002, everyone who registers a snowmobile in New Hampshire needs to show proof of membership with a New Hampshire snowmobile club affiliated with the New Hampshire Snowmobile Association, or pay an extra $30.00 per snowmobile.

The extra $30.00 supports the state-managed Grant-In-Aid program, which goes directly back to the clubs for trail maintenance and construction projects to maintain the snowmobile trails for the snowmobile rider. (See breakdown of registration fees below)

For more information contact the New Hampshire Snowmobile Association, 224-8906 or New Hampshire Fish and Game, 271-3129.
Any OHRV that is used "off" the owner's property must obtain a NH OHRV registration.

Where can I register?
Registrations can be made in person at over 200 OHRV Registration agencies located throughout the state. Businesses that sell OHRV Registrations include: OHRV sales and repair shops, sporting goods stores, country and general stores, and some marinas. Specific locations can be obtained by calling NH Fish and Game Headquarters. Registrations are also available by mail through the NH Fish and Game Department. Registration information can also be obtained by viewing the NH Fish and Game's website at http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/OHRV/ohrv.htm.

An OHRV registration consists of a white certificate, 2 decals and 2 validation stickers. The registration certificate must be carried by the operator of the OHRV and the decals/validation stickers must be properly affixed to the OHRV.
